EXHIBITION

Consultant’s position: Curator and Administrator, Festival Accès Asie
Client:  Festival Accès Asie
Collaborator: Maison de la culture Frontenac

I served as the lead organizer of Found, a two-person exhibition featuring photography, video and installation works by artists Aanchal Malhotra (India / New Delhi) and Margret Nielsen (Germany / Montreal).

Found was a research-based show that explored the artistic use of found objects and themes of discovery, recognition and restoration.
 
Presented by Festival Accès Asie in collaboration the Maison de la culture Frontenac, the exhibition ran from April 27th to June 4th, 2016. Events included an opening cocktail on May 7th, 2016, as well as a meeting and discussion with the artists on May 8th, 2016.

Project Team:

As lead organizer, I worked and liaised with the following institutions and project collaborators:
  • Artists (2)
  • Festival Accès Asie: Director (1), administrative staff (4), interns (3), volunteers (2)
  • Maison de la cuture Frontenac: Director (1), administrative staff (3), technicians (3)

Project Management:
  • Established work priorities.
  • Planned, developed and delivered the project from conception to completion.
  • Wrote project proposals, budgets and expenditure reports.
  • Strategized project collaboration and fostered inter-institutional relations.
  • Conducted research on project feasibility, prepared information for grant applications and final grant reports.
  • Represented the project in key negotiations and meetings with business, cultural and governmental institutions.
 
Event Management:
  • Drafted planning documents, schedules, floor plans and detailed technical lists.
  • Researched and purchased equipment, materials, services and supplies.
  • Coordinated with diverse staff and technicians.
  • Trained and supervised personnel, interns and volunteers.
  • Gave public speaking presentations and provided customer service to visitors.
  • Prepared and negotiated contracts with participating artists.
  • Wrote, edited, proofread, designed and translated communications documents, exhibition and marketing materials.
  • Directed marketing, press and media campaigns, logistics, documentation, translations and communications.

Achievements:
  • This marks the 1st time in Festival Accès Asie’s history that one of its exhibitions garnered a full-spread critical essay in a major visual arts magazine (Vie des arts, # 243, Summer 2016)
  • Successful press and marketing strategies attracted significant media coverage and increased visitor attendance at the exhibition
